Do I Need A Bookkeeper for My Small Business?

The short answer is YES!

The long answer is… YES, everyone needs a bookkeeper but as a small business owner, it’s even more important that you have an extra set of eyes on the goings-on in your business.

You are only one person and there are only so many hours in a day. You need someone on your side supporting you while you focus on the more important aspects of running your business.

Having a bookkeeper organize and finalize your books gives you peace of mind and transparency so you always know exactly where your business stands. You will be able to make better financial decisions and feel confident and prepared during tax season!

What does a bookkeeper do?

A bookkeeper’s job is to organize, categorize, and reconcile every single cent that comes in or goes out of a business. By tracking and managing this financial data, you will have a clear understanding of your business health. Accurate data, transparency, and confidence will help you make wise business decisions to create new and sustainable growth.

How can a bookkeeper same me time?

There are so many ways that a bookkeeper can save you time in your business but the most impactful is that if you hire a bookkeeper, you get your time back to focus on your business. As a business owner, you wear many different hats and your time is spread very thin. By outsourcing your bookkeeping, you get some of that time back to do the things that you are passionate about, the reason you started your business in the first place! An experienced bookkeeper can perform the work in half the time it may take someone who is just muddling through!

How can a bookkeeper save me money?

Do you know that you could be leaving hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the table at tax time? If your books are not accurate, you could be paying way more in taxes than you should be!

Also, how much is your time worth to you? You could spend 10 hours a month working on your books instead of working on revenue-generating tasks. For example, if you charge $60 per hour for your service, you just lost $600 by trying to do your own bookkeeping. You could hire a remote bookkeeper for a fraction of that!

Some businesses think they need an in-house bookkeeper and that expense can add up quickly. When you add up their salary, benefits, vacation, insurance, etc. you could be looking at thousands of dollars. But with a remote bookkeeper, you only pay for what you need!

Will a bookkeeper do my taxes for me?

A bookkeeper does not file taxes for businesses but they do work closely with your accountant to make sure they have everything they need to be able to file your taxes. A bookkeeper will prepare all the reports that your accountant needs to make tax time as seamless as possible for you.

An accountant’s fees are going to be much greater than a bookkeeper’s fees so it’s a good idea to have your bookkeeper do the leg work for your accountant in order to save you even more money!

Is it safe to give my information to a bookkeeper?

Your security and safety are the top priority. You should never give out your information to someone you don’t know. You should also never send your information through email or fax. The most secure way to share your business information is through a highly encrypted file sharing and management system.

Think of the security offered by your online banking, you want the same level of security with your bookkeeping.

You are in control and there are many options for securely sharing your information with a bookkeeper. You can even set up processes in which your bookkeeper never sees a login or password!

My Approach

Secure, accurate, on-time bookkeeping!

We are all just real people doing our best every day to build a life that we love and a legacy for our family.

My approach is to treat people exactly the way I want to be treated with full transparency, honesty, and no-nonsense.

I've worked in and with small businesses for the past 20 years and the most important lesson that I've learned is that clear communication and honesty help to resolve and eliminate possible issues within an organization.

Even as someone that is not a "traditional" employee, I feel a deep level of connection and loyalty to every business that I work with.

Businesses are not a "thing" they are people and as people, we put our heart and soul into our businesses. Your success equals my success and vice versa. We are all in this together!
